Estimated Need: 4 CT/X-Ray Technologists
Period of Performance: 3-month base period with seven 3-month option periods
Estimated Hours: 520 hours per period
Work Setting: Inpatient and outpatient healthcare environment serving IHS patients at CCHCF and other healthcare facilities within the Navajo IHS Area / Chinle Service Unit.
Position Summary
The Dual Modality CT/X-Ray Technologist will provide professional CT and radiology technologist services in support of the Indian Health Service mission to deliver accessible, safe, high-quality, and culturally respectful healthcare services. The technologist will perform diagnostic imaging services for both inpatient and outpatient patients, including CT scanning, fluoroscopy, general radiographic imaging, and related patient-care responsibilities.
The position requires a qualified, experienced, and credentialed technologist who can independently perform CT/Radiology services in a responsible, respectful, and caring manner while complying with IHS, CCHCF, Joint Commission, CMS, HIPAA, Privacy Act, and department-specific policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The Dual Modality CT/X-Ray Technologist shall:
- Perform computerized axial tomographic scanning, fluoroscopy, and general diagnostic X-ray imaging of the head and body.
- Perform imaging procedures including, but not limited to, IVP, barium swallow, cystograms, C-arm operation during surgical procedures, and a broad range of standard radiographic diagnostic and fluoroscopic procedures.
- Check in, receive, schedule, and prepare patients for exams.
- Explain procedures to patients in a clear and professional manner.
- Transfer patients safely to and from the examination table when needed.
- Secure patient confidence through respectful communication, proper patient care, and professional conduct.
- Practice proper handwashing and use appropriate patient shielding and protection.
- Perform intravenous cannulation for IV contrast injections.
- Monitor contrast injections and recognize possible complications.
- Assist physicians and radiologists with administration of opaque media for prescribed CT scans and radiographic exams.
- Confer with radiologists for complex or non-standard examinations.
- Assist with emergency first aid and initiate CPR when required.
- Participate in all ARRT-required quality control activities.
- Maintain logs, repair records, maintenance records, supply records, and other minor administrative records in accordance with departmental practice.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation in accordance with IHS, Joint Commission, and CMS standards.
- Follow HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS information security requirements.
- Attend mandatory orientation and training required by the Government.
- Maintain professional conduct and comply with Federal Code of Conduct standards.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet and maintain the following requirements throughout the contract period:
- Minimum of 12 months of CT/Radiology Technology experience.
- Current certification and registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in both:
- CT
- X-Ray / Radiography
- Certification, registration, and license must remain current and must not expire during the individual’s tenure with CCHCF / CSU Radiology Department.
- Current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Valid state driver’s license, if required by the position.
- Ability to read, understand, speak, and write English for effective communication with patients and healthcare staff.
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to use required IHS information technology systems.
- Ability to work respectfully with American Indian and Alaska Native patients and demonstrate cultural awareness in a rural healthcare environment.
Health, Compliance, and Background Requirements
The selected candidate must provide required documentation and comply with all employment and credentialing requirements, including:
- Immunization documentation for Rubella, Mumps, Measles, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis, Influenza, and TB testing.
- Completion of required background checks, including Level I and Level II investigations as directed.
- Compliance with Public Law 101-360 and applicable IHS child protection and family violence prevention requirements.
- Immediate removal from the position may occur if background investigation results are unfavorable or if other unfavorable information becomes known.
- Compliance with all HIPAA, Privacy Act, medical record, IT security, and patient information requirements.
Work Environment and Equipment
The technologist will work in a healthcare radiology environment and may support services at CCHCF Radiology Department and other healthcare facilities within the Chinle Service Unit. Government-furnished equipment may include Shimadzu X-ray machines, Shimadzu portable units, GE portable X-ray machine, GE Revolution Evo CT, and GE Precision Fluoroscopy Machine.
Tours of duty may vary based on facility needs and may include 8-hour, 10-hour, or 12-hour shifts.

Pay: $46.52 - $56.03 per hour
