3.1 Clean Ways Academy - Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RCPRS) Position Overview
Who we’re looking for
HYPE Counseling Services is looking for Registered Peer Recovery Specialists in our Richmond, VA location! You will be providing peer to peer support services to individuals with Mental Illness and/or Substance Use Disorder. This position reports to Peer Services Program Management.
The goal of this position is to fully support and assist individuals through the beginning stages of early recovery with a concentration on removing barriers to recovery and reintegration into society as a productive member and sustainably independent.
Job Description
What you’ll be doing
Including but not limited to:
● Work hours are Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm and one weekend per month.
● Performing a variety of paraprofessional duties in support of wellness and recovery by utilizing their lived experiences of recovery and mental illness and/or substance use disorder plus skills learned in formal training to provide non-clinical individual support sessions with the community members served to promote their recovery and resiliency.
● Offer emotional support, share knowledge, teach skills, provide practical assistance and connect individuals with resources, opportunities, communities of support and other people.
● Help to ensure the patient’s wellness-recovery plan by revealing the needs and preferences of the individuals being served to complete their measurable and personalized goals.
● The ability to support individuals through a very specific phase of their recovery.
● The ability to work well in an intensive setting as part of a team.
Qualifications
What you need to have:
● Virginia Peer Recovery Specialist certification and registration with Va. Board of Counseling (this must be verified before interview is scheduled)
● Valid VA Driver's License and Reliable Transportation required
● General knowledge and understanding of mental illness, substance use, and developmental disabilities
● Knowledge and understanding of the principles and components of recovery
● Lived experience in recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges
● Knowledge of the local mental health/substance use disorder local systems as well as various services available in the community including public, private, and volunteer organizations
● Ability to work independently AND as part of a team.
● Good personal management skills – time management, organization, dependability and independence
