Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled, organized, and compassionate Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our multidisciplinary medical team. This individual will play a critical role in coordinating care between patients, psychiatrists, caregivers and community partners. The ideal candidate will manage medical appointments, assist with documentation, ensure medication compliance, and support continuity of care [DN2] through timely follow-ups and administrative coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Psychiatric Technician or LVN will work within their scope of practice and perform duties such as:
Medical Appointment Coordination:
- Ensure intake and follow-up psychiatric appointments are scheduled in a timely and efficient manner.
- Monitor and help manage the waitlist process, including tracking new referrals and confirming prioritization based on clinical need.
- Facilitate coordination among caregivers, treatment team members, interpreters, and inpatient facilities to ensure appointments are properly arranged.
- Verify that appointment confirmations, contact updates, and rescheduling efforts are completed as needed.
- Support the discharge and care transition process by confirming necessary medical and coordination steps are followed by the appropriate team members.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Assist with gathering and submitting required documents (e.g., custody documents, lab results, physicals, medication consents).
- Request and track ROI (Release of Information) forms for sharing or obtaining medical records.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation including MD orders, appointment notes, and medication tracking logs.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all quality assurance and medical records policies and procedures.
Medication Management:
- Makes a positive impact on patients’ health through the provision of the highest quality care and/or consultation to patients and families.
- Assists the psychiatrist/physicians and conducts health assessments. Alerts the psychiatrist/physicians when adverse drug reactions are reported or observed.
- Monitors and records patient vital signs and medication regimens.
- Assist in providing lab and EKG orders, reviewing results, and relaying abnormal findings per provider instruction.
- Liaise with pharmacies for refills, medication clarifications, prior authorizations, and stimulant availability due to shortages.
- Assist clients and caregivers in reviewing and clarifying medication instructions to ensure proper understanding of dosage, timing, and any special considerations (e.g., with food, fasting, or holding medications before labs).
- Support coordination with Pharmacy for injectable medications.
- Client and Family Support:
- Provide education and assistance to patients/caregivers regarding medications, labs, pharmacy processes, and appointment prep.
- Follow up with clients reporting side effects, missed doses, or barriers to compliance.
- Coordinate interpretation services for non-English-speaking clients.
- Assist with document requests such as school medication forms, housing forms, jury duty excusals, and SUDs coordination, etc.
- Participates as a team member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, contributes to the care and treatment plan and advocates for the patient if needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate with the internal treatment team psychiatrists, medical assistants, nurses, therapists, case managers, as well as patients, families and external community clinicians.
- Communicate efficiently with county systems (e.g., PMA units, social workers, school staff, and courts)
- Assist with the PMA (Psychotropic Medication Application) process for minors under court supervision.
- Ensure all communication and requests received via email, phone calls and other sources are reviewed, tracked and followed up to completion.
- Listens intently, resolves complaints and conflict, exercises sound professional judgment, maintains the highest standard of confidentiality and makes effective medical decisions.
- If bilingual, provide interpretive services.
- Actively participates on committees as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid California license as a Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems (Exym experience a plus).
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation (may require travel to clinics or off-site appointments).

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.00 per week
