Position Summary
The Lot Porter supports the dealership’s sales and service departments by maintaining an organized, clean, safe, and customer-ready vehicle inventory. This role is responsible for moving, staging, fueling, cleaning, and preparing vehicles while helping ensure the dealership lot and customer areas remain professional at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain the appearance, organization, and safety of all new, used, loaner, and service-loaner vehicles.
- Move vehicles safely throughout the dealership property, including the sales lot, service drive, delivery area, wash bay, storage areas, and off-site locations as needed.
- Park and arrange inventory according to dealership standards and management direction.
- Keep vehicle keys properly secured, labeled, and accounted for.
- Ensure displayed vehicles are clean, fueled or charged, unlocked/locked as directed, and ready for customer presentation.
- Wash, vacuum, fuel, charge, and perform basic appearance preparation on vehicles as assigned.
- Assist with vehicle deliveries, dealer trades, customer pick-up/drop-off, and transportation to outside vendors.
- Inspect vehicles for visible damage, low fuel, warning lights, missing equipment, or cleanliness concerns and promptly report issues to management.
- Support the service department by moving customer vehicles and maintaining an orderly service drive.
- Keep the lot, delivery area, showroom entrance, and other assigned areas clear of trash, snow, debris, and hazards.
- Assist sales and service staff with day-to-day vehicle needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Follow all dealership safety procedures, traffic rules, and company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles, if applicable.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Professional attitude and customer-friendly communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and enter/exit vehicles repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physically active work.
Working Conditions
This position regularly works indoors and outdoors, including in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other changing weather conditions. The role requires frequent movement around dealership property and safe operation of customer and dealership vehicles.
