Director 2 – Operational Support Athletics, Driver Education, Energy Management, and Facilities
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Operations, the Director 2 – Operational Support provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for the district's Athletics, Driver Education, Energy Management, and Facilities programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Athletics and Driver Education

Coordinate and oversee all district athletic and driver education programs.

Monitor compliance with North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and other applicable rules and regulations.

Plan, organize, and facilitate meetings and professional development for athletic directors, coaches, and driver education instructors.

Maintain and annually update district athletic and driver education handbooks.

Develop and implement procedures that ensure student eligibility requirements are consistently monitored.

Coordinate athletic schedules and district-wide events in collaboration with school administrators.

Serve as liaison among schools, coaches, booster organizations, parents, transportation staff, community organizations, and district leadership.

Assist in resolving concerns involving athletic programs and driver education through collaborative problem solving.

Develop, monitor, and administer departmental budgets.

Coordinate athletic and driver education operations during inclement weather and emergency situations.

Work with the Director of Transportation to maintain the district's driver education vehicle fleet.

Attend and represent the district at local, regional, and state meetings related to athletics and driver education.

Support school administrators with operational and personnel issues related to assigned programs.
Energy Management

Plan, organize, implement, and administer the district's Energy Management and Conservation Program.

Collaborate with the district's approved energy consulting firm and utility providers to maximize operational efficiency and cost savings.

Analyze utility data and prepare reports regarding energy usage, trends, conservation efforts, and cost-saving initiatives.

Conduct routine inspections and audits of district facilities to ensure compliance with established energy management guidelines.

Develop and recommend strategies that reduce utility costs while maintaining appropriate building environments.

Work closely with principals, maintenance staff, custodians, school nutrition personnel, and technology staff to promote energy conservation practices.

Ensure utility accounts are maintained accurately and billed using the most advantageous rate structures.
Facilities and Operational Support.

Conduct facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and opportunities for operational improvements.

Assist in developing operational procedures and best practices for district facilities.

Maintain effective communication with school administrators regarding facility-related projects and operational needs.
General Leadership Responsibilities

Develop collaborative working relationships with school administrators, district departments, governmental agencies, vendors, and community partners.

Support district operational initiatives and strategic planning efforts.

Assist the Executive Director of Operations with special projects and district-wide initiatives.

Maintain accurate records, reports, budgets, and documentation for assigned programs.

Utilize district technology systems for budgeting, reporting, scheduling, inventory management, and communication.
-
Remain available by district-issued communication devices outside normal work hours during emergencies or operational needs.

Work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays when required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred.

Valid North Carolina educator license required; North Carolina School Administrator license preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of successful educational leadership or operational management experience.

Experience as a secondary athletic coach and athletic director preferred.

Experience in facilities management, construction management, energy management, or school operations preferred.

Knowledge of NCHSAA, NCAA, NCDPI, DMV, OSHA, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Demonstrated experience in budgeting, project management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.

Ability to analyze operational data and prepare reports utilizing spreadsheets and technology applications.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, community organizations, contractors, consultants, and governmental agencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, including typing, grasping, talking, hearing, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, reaching, and repetitive motion. Must be capable of conducting facility inspections that may require walking across school campuses, climbing ladders or stairs, and occasionally lifting or moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Visual acuity sufficient to inspect facilities, analyze reports, operate computers, and review technical documents is required.
