Excavator Equipment Operator / Electrical Journeyman - Colorado Springs, CO
Magnum Electric is seeking an experienced Excavator Equipment Operator / Electrical Journeyman to join our growing team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, is mechanically inclined, and has experience operating heavy equipment for underground electrical construction.
The ideal candidate has experience as a licensed or experienced electrical journeyman and has operated excavation equipment for an electrical contractor, installing underground electrical systems for commercial, industrial, multi-family, or utility projects.
Essential Job Functions
- Safely and efficiently operate mini excavators, skid steers, forklifts, and other construction equipment.
- Excavate trenches for underground electrical systems while maintaining proper depth and grade.
- Install PVC electrical conduit, sweeps, pull boxes, vaults, and underground raceway systems.
- Read blueprints, electrical drawings, and site plans to accurately complete underground installations.
- Measure, cut, bend, and assemble PVC conduit using hand and power tools.
- Glue and secure conduit systems according to electrical code and project specifications.
- Backfill and restore excavation areas following installation.
- Assist with locating existing underground utilities and maintaining safe excavation practices.
- Operate company vehicles and safely tow trailers, equipment, and materials.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
- Work closely with project managers, foremen, and electricians to complete projects safely and on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electrical Journeyman license or equivalent electrical field experience preferred.
- Experience operating excavation equipment for an electrical contractor installing underground electrical systems.
- Minimum 2 years of excavator operating experience.
- Experience installing underground conduit for commercial, industrial, multi-family, utility, or renewable energy projects.
- Ability to read electrical prints and understand underground electrical layouts.
- Experience operating skid steers, forklifts, and other construction equipment.
- Current driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely drive company trucks and back trailers.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
