Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health status to ensure prompt response and proper documentation.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal planning and preparation to promote healthy living.
- Administer medications accurately following care plans while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Support clients with cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia through memory care techniques and personalized engagement strategies.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, and sanitizing common areas.
- Document care activities meticulously in accordance with care plans and report any concerns or incidents promptly to supervisory staff.
- Use patient observation skills to monitor behavioral changes or signs of distress, especially when working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to ensure comprehensive patient support and adherence to individualized care plans.
- Employ proper lifting techniques and equipment like the Hoyer lift for heavy lifting tasks to ensure safety for both clients and caregivers.
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient care procedures including medication administration, vital signs measurement, and patient monitoring.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, developmental challenges, autism spectrum disorder, or dementia is advantageous.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy of patient information.
- Hands-on experience with caregiving tasks such as assisting with ADLs, meal preparation, light cleaning, and resident engagement.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; additional certifications such as hospice care or specialized dementia training are beneficial.
