Now Hiring: Part-Time Kennel Technician
Char-Wills German Shepherd Rescue is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and compassionate Part-Time Kennel Technician to join our team.
This is a part-time position, generally 20–25 hours per week. Hours may vary depending on the season and the needs of the rescue, with schedules changing during the summer and winter months. Flexibility in your availability is essential.
Starting pay is $12.00 per hour, with the opportunity for a wage increase based on performance following a successful 90-day review.
As a small nonprofit, every team member plays an important role. We are looking for someone who is dependable, willing to work as part of a team, and ready to jump in wherever needed. Because we are a small team, reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
Responsibilities
- Feed and provide daily care for the dogs
- Clean and sanitize kennels, runs, and common areas
- Monitor dogs for changes in behavior or health and report concerns
- Administer medications as directed
- Brush dogs and provide basic grooming as needed
- Assist with bathing on occasion when needed
- Wash food and water bowls, laundry, bedding, and toys
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kennel environment
- Assist with moving dogs throughout the facility when needed
- Transport dogs to veterinary appointments, pick up incoming dogs, and assist with other rescue-related transportation as needed
- May assist with adoption meet-and-greet appointments and interact with potential adopters
- Work alongside staff and volunteers to provide excellent care for every dog
- Assist with other rescue-related tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Must be comfortable working with large-breed dogs, including German Shepherds
- Comfortable handling dogs with varying temperaments, including shy, energetic, and fearful dogs
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to animal welfare
- Dependable with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communication skills
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Previous kennel, veterinary, boarding, daycare, or animal handling experience is preferred but not required
