Company Description: Beyond Gifted Services is a full-scale educational consulting firm that supports families with gifted and neurodivergent learners in locating and designing effective learning environments for their children. BGS does not directly employ candidates.
Employer: This role will report directly to, and be employed by, a private client family in the Denver Metro area.
Location: Denver, CO (80220)
Hours: 20 hours per week (approximate); will guarantee hours.
Schedule: tentatively, 9 am-3 pm on M/W/F plus a few hours of planning time per week, negotiable.
Commitment: August 2026 – August 2027 (ideally longer, for the right candidate)
Salary: $31-33/hour
About the Position:
This is a unique role, equal parts learning sherpa and emotional support person, for a very bright, active, and unapologetically 10-year-old girl with a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile of autism. The ideal candidate would have a background in mental health, education, para-support for special needs, or a similar background.
While professional experience supporting neurodiverse children in individualized learning environments is a plus, the most important qualification for the role is being an emotionally intelligent, grounded, and positive human. Because this is a bespoke position that requires substantial rapport-building, the ideal candidate would be able to stay with our family beyond next summer.
Responsibilities:
This role is for someone who believes that meaningful learning doesn't happen only at a desk. The ideal candidate is excited to create a highly personalized educational experience that blends academics with real-world exploration, following the child's curiosity while thoughtfully building knowledge, skills, confidence, and independence. Every day will look different, with learning taking place at home, in the community, and through authentic experiences that make education engaging, relevant, and fun.
- Design and guide a personalized learning journey by identifying learning goals, curating resources and experiences, and creating a flexible educational path that builds on the child's interests, strengths, and natural curiosity.
- Create rich, real-world learning experiences that spark curiosity and a love of learning through projects, conversations, outings, experiments, books, community experiences, and everyday adventures where learning happens naturally.
- Provide one-on-one academic guidance by thoughtfully weaving literacy, math, science, critical thinking, and creativity into flexible, interest-led experiences rather than relying solely on traditional lessons, worksheets, and textbooks.
- Support executive functioning, emotional growth, and independence by helping establish routines, build organization and self-management skills, and develop confidence as a learner in a low-pressure, relationship-first environment.
- Adapt teaching and engagement strategies to support giftedness, ADHD, autism, and PDA-informed practices by emphasizing autonomy, flexibility, and collaboration while maintaining high expectations for growth.
- Partner closely with parents by sharing observations, celebrating progress, refining learning goals, and collaboratively evolving the child's educational journey over time.
- Transport and accompany the child during educational and enrichment activities, including field experiences, community outings, learning groups, therapeutic appointments, and other experiences that extend learning beyond the home.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Clean, current criminal background check
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Reliable vehicle and willingness to drive child to activities and outings
- Experience working with autistic/gifted children (experience with PDA is a strong plus)
- Willingness to adapt, experiment, and learn new strategies based on the child's needs
- A joyful, energetic, and empathic approach to daily interactions
