Position Summary
The Youth AI & Workforce Development Intern participates in a paid workforce development program designed to provide young adults with hands-on experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI), workplace technology, automation, professional development, and real-world project execution.Participants will complete structured training through Hyyr.ai and apply what they learn to practical projects designed to develop skills that can be used in today's technology-driven workplace. The program combines education, hands-on assignments, collaboration, mentorship, and project-based learning to help participants build valuable professional and technical experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Participants may be responsible for:
- Completing assigned courses and training through the Hyyr.ai Learning Platform.
- Learning the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, AI tools, automation, and modern workplace technology.
- Participating in instructor-led training, workshops, meetings, and project sessions.
- Using AI tools such as ChatGPT and other approved technologies to complete assignments and projects.
- Identifying repetitive or manual processes that could potentially be improved through technology or automation.
- Assisting with the research, planning, and development of real-world automation projects.
- Working individually and in teams to develop solutions to assigned challenges.
- Testing and providing feedback on AI tools, workflows, and automation concepts.
- Conducting research and organizing information related to assigned projects.
- Documenting project progress, findings, and completed work.
- Preparing and presenting project ideas, demonstrations, or final results.
- Developing professional communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Completing assignments and program milestones within established deadlines.
- Maintaining professional behavior and actively participating throughout the program.
Real-World Project Experience
As part of the program, participants may have the opportunity to work on projects involving City of La Puente operations and community services. Projects may focus on identifying ways technology and automation can help improve processes such as:
- Resident and community service requests
- Parks & Recreation processes
- Internal administrative workflows
- Information collection and organization
- Communication and follow-up processes
- Other repetitive City processes that may benefit from automation
Participants will work with guidance from program instructors, mentors, and experienced developers.

Program Expectations
- Attend required program sessions.
- Complete assigned Hyyr.ai courses and training.
- Complete required onboarding and employment documentation, including I-9 verification.
- Participate actively in assigned projects.

- Track and complete required program activities and assignments.
- Follow all program, workplace, and City policies.

Compensation
This is a paid workforce development opportunity. Participants will be compensated according to the requirements and terms established by the City of La Puente Youth Workforce Development Program and Skillset Gives.
Program Goal
The goal of the City of La Puente Youth Workforce Development Program is to provide participants with more than classroom instruction. Participants will leave the program with practical experience using AI and emerging technologies, exposure to real-world projects, improved professional skills, and experience they can apply toward future employment and career opportunities.
Pay: $20.17 per hour
