Manufacturing Engineer
Location: North Reading, MA (Relocating to Wilmington, MA in September 2026)
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site, Monday-Friday

Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support prototype electromechanical system builds within a fast-paced advanced manufacturing and robotics environment. This role will be responsible for assembly process development, build execution, tooling and fixture design, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives supporting new product introductions and prototype manufacturing.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex electromechanical assemblies in a prototype, NPI, robotics, aerospace, defense, medical device, or advanced manufacturing environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in a dynamic setting where designs evolve rapidly and collaboration with mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams is critical to success.
Key Responsibilities
Prototype Assembly & Build Execution

Support hands-on assembly, integration, testing, and validation of complex electromechanical systems and subassemblies

Work closely with engineering teams to execute prototype and low-volume production builds

Ensure build quality, process adherence, and production readiness throughout the manufacturing cycle
Process Development

Develop, document, and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, and assembly procedures

Support new product introduction (NPI) activities and manufacturing readiness efforts

Create and maintain build documentation, process flows, and standard work instructions
Tooling & Fixture Design

Design, develop, and implement assembly fixtures, jigs, tooling, and test equipment

Collaborate with engineering teams to improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency

Support process optimization through tooling enhancements and ergonomic improvements
Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis

Investigate manufacturing issues, quality concerns, and production bottlenecks

Lead root cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions

Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve build and assembly challenges
Build Readiness & Manufacturing Support

Coordinate material readiness, kitting, workstation setup, and build sequencing

Support engineering change implementation and revision control activities

Maintain accurate as-built records and manufacturing documentation
Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve quality, throughput, ergonomics, and cycle times

Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives

Drive process improvements that enhance efficiency and product quality
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline

3+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience

Experience supporting electromechanical assemblies, including motors, actuators, sensors, gearboxes, wiring harnesses, and related systems

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly prints, and GD&T

Experience with torque-critical fastening, calibrated tools, and assembly best practices

Familiarity with prototype builds, NPI environments, and manufacturing process development

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills
Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in robotics, automation, aerospace, defense, medical device, or advanced manufacturing industries

Experience supporting prototype-to-production transitions

SolidWorks or equivalent CAD experience for tooling and fixture design
-
Knowledge of electronics integration, PCB handling, and wiring harness assembly

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, SPC, IPC standards, and continuous improvement methodologies

Experience working in ESD-controlled and clean manufacturing environments
Physical Requirements

Ability to work on a manufacturing floor and support hands-on assembly activities

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials or equipment as needed

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
