Position Overview
Westport Auction is seeking an experienced Cataloger to join our fast paced and growing team. This position involves preparing our auction catalogs across a varied range of materials and requires a candidate who is comfortable working with strong judgment and close attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Research and catalogue various objects, including furniture, fine art, decorative arts, lighting, and jewelry
- Conduct accurate attributions of works to artists, makers, designers, and periods
- Produce clear, well-structured descriptions in line with our auction house standards
- Assess and document condition, preparing thorough and reliable reports
- Work closely with internal teams to support timely catalogue production
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of cataloguing experience in an auction house environment
- Working knowledge across multiple categories, including antiques, mid-century modern, Scandinavian design, and decorative arts
- Consistent and detail-oriented approach to written work
- Solid organizational skills and ability to manage workflow and deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with auction inventory or cataloguing systems
- Background in art/design history or a related field
Work Environment & Requirements
- Position is based on-site at 595 Westport Ave, Norwalk, CT
- Candidates should be locally based or able to commute reliably
- Ability to handle objects and work in a warehouse/gallery setting as needed
Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
