Davenport Operator / Setup Machinist (full-time)

Position Summary
The Experienced Davenport Operator / Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining multi-spindle automatic screw machines (primarily Davenport). This role requires deep technical expertise in tooling, machine setup, and process optimization to produce high-quality precision parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation:
· Set up and operate 5-spindle Davenport automatic screw machines
· Perform complete job setups including tooling selection, cam setup, speeds/feeds, and operation sequencing
· Execute complex and precise setups for intricate machining operations
· Run multiple machines concurrently (goal: up to 3 machines)
Machining & Production:
· Perform operations including turning, forming, shaving and skiving; threading; drilling, punching; recessing, and back facing.
· Monitor machine performance and make real-time adjustments based on sound, feel, and part quality
· Maintain production output while ensuring quality standards are consistently met
Quality & Inspection:
· Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine specifications
· Use measuring instruments and gauges to verify part accuracy
· Perform in-process inspections and basic quality checks
· Apply SPC and problem-solving techniques as needed
Tooling & Maintenance:
· Select, install, adjust, and maintain tooling, including sharpening and reconditioning
· Troubleshoot machining issues and diagnose mechanical problems
· Perform routine machine maintenance (lubrication, adjustments, cleaning)
Production Support:
· Maintain accurate production and quality records
· Handle parts processing (counting, tagging, cleaning, and routing finished parts)
· Remove chips and maintain machine readiness
· Ensure proper material flow to downstream operations
· Train and support other operators as needed
Safety & Housekeeping:
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
· Follow all safety protocols and operating procedures
Qualifications
Required:
· 3+ years of experience operating and setting up Davenport multi-spindle screw machines
· Strong ability to read blueprints and technical documents
· Solid mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
· Experience in a fast-paced production environment
Preferred:
· Knowledge of SPC and continuous improvement practices
· Experience training or mentoring operators
Work Schedule:
· Monday–Thursday, four 10-hour shifts

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
