Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, highly detail-oriented Lab Assistant to join our anatomic pathology laboratory. This position works Tuesday through Saturday, with Saturdays serving as the primary laboratory support person responsible for maintaining workflow independently. Tuesday through Friday, the Lab Assistant will integrate into the laboratory team and assist wherever needed to support daily operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in the medical laboratory field. While prior laboratory experience is helpful, we are willing to train the right individual. Essential Responsibilities
Saturday Responsibilities (Independent Coverage)
- Receive and process incoming FedEx specimen deliveries.
- Accession specimens into the laboratory information system.
- Process samples to prepare cell blocks.
- Prepare Pap smear slides from ThinPrep specimens.
- Maintain accurate documentation and specimen identification throughout all processes.
- Independently prioritize workflow to ensure timely specimen processing.
Tuesday through Friday Responsibilities
- Integrate into the laboratory workflow and assist wherever needed based on daily priorities.
- Perform digital slide imaging and scanning as assigned.
- Assist with accessioning, specimen preparation, and general laboratory operations.
- Support histology and cytology workflow as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
- Follow all laboratory SOPs, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Perform additional laboratory support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or bachelor's degree in a science-related field is preferred.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
- Interest in pathology, laboratory medicine, or healthcare strongly preferred.
- Exceptionally detail-oriented with outstanding organizational skills.
- Able to learn and consistently perform complex laboratory workflows.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently after training.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn laboratory information systems.
