Job Summary
Finesse Construction is a General Contractor with multiple divisions. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data in order to assess the time, money, materials, and labor required for commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to prepare accurate, competitive bids and project budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze project documents: Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project requirements.
- Prepare cost estimates: Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Manage the bid process: Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring all scopes of work are complete and compliant with project needs.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs: Perform accurate material quantity takeoffs using estimating software (e.g., BlueBeam, PlanSwift, Symbility, Xactimate).
- Collaborate and communicate: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, clients, and vendors to ensure alignment on costs, timelines, and design solutions.
- Conduct risk analysis: Identify potential cost factors, risks, and possible cost overruns, and recommend ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality.
- Present proposals: Prepare and present proposals, reports, and project plans to clients and internal management.
- Maintain data and records: Keep up-to-date records of estimated and actual costs and maintain a current directory of suppliers and contractors.
- Stay informed: Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and changes in building codes and safety regulations to ensure estimates are current and competitive.
- Conduct site visits: Travel to potential and active construction sites as needed to gather information and assess project conditions.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating is required.
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is often preferred, though significant field experience can also qualify.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction estimating and scheduling software (e.g., BlueBeam, Primavera, MS Project).
- Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and math skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication and negotiation abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Work Environment
The role typically involves a mix of office work and site visits, where exposure to various weather conditions, loud noises, and moving mechanical parts may occur. The ability to wear personal protective equipment is required for site visits.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
