We are looking for a full-time motivated Fleet & Equipment Mechanic to join our crew, with opportunity for growth within the company. POSITION SUMMARY
- The Fleet & Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of Fencecrete America's fleet of trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment used in fencing and precast concrete construction operations. This role keeps crews productive and safe by minimizing equipment downtime, ensuring DOT compliance on company vehicles, and maintaining a well-organized shop and service records. This is a hands-on role suited for a mechanic who takes pride in reliable, well-maintained equipment and can work independently in the field or the yard.
Duties
- Perform routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, filters, brakes, tires) on company trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment (skid steers, forklifts, boom trucks, concrete mixers, etc.).
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diesel and gas engines, drivetrains, and equipment attachments.
- Complete DOT-required annual inspections and maintain compliance documentation for all company vehicles.
- Respond to field breakdowns promptly, performing on-site repairs or coordinating towing/recovery to minimize project delays.
- Maintain accurate digital maintenance logs, work orders, and repair records for each vehicle and piece of equipment in the fleet management system.
- Order and manage parts inventory, working with vendors to get competitive pricing and timely delivery.
- Weld and fabricate minor repairs to trailers, racks, and equipment attachments as needed.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing equipment for damage, wear, or safety issues, and flag items for repair before they impact job sites.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Train field crews on basic equipment care, daily inspection checklists, and proper operating procedures.
- Support the CDL fleet by coordinating with drivers on defect reports and turnaround times.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment or fleet mechanic, preferably in construction, precast concrete, or fencing operations.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment (skid steers, boom trucks, forklifts, mixers).
- ASE certification(s) preferred but not required; DOT inspection certification a plus.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, service manuals, and diagnostic scan tool output.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus (not required for this role).
- Own a standard set of hand tools; company provides specialty and shop equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. regularly and up to 100 lbs. occasionally with assistance.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including outdoor shop and field environments.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, and working in confined spaces under vehicles/equipment.
- Ability to stand and work with hand/power tools for extended periods.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend/on-call availability for breakdowns 7:00am- 4:00pm
Pay: $37.00 - $42.00 per hour
