We are looking for a highly motivated, detail-driven Quality Technician III to join our growing team. In this key role, you will lead advanced inspection and verification activities within a metal fabrication manufacturing environment, ensuring raw materials, in-process components, weldments, and finished products meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards. As a trusted technical resource, you will collaborate closely with production, welding, machining, and engineering teams while supporting complex problem-solving, corrective action follow-up, continuous improvement initiatives, and the development of less experienced quality team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform incoming, first-piece, in-process, final, and complex inspection activities on fabricated metal parts, assemblies, and weldments.
- Interpret complex blueprints, specifications, customer requirements, and GD&T to verify conformance and resolve inspection questions.
- Use and troubleshoot advanced precision measuring tools and inspection methods to validate dimensional accuracy, fit, finish, and weld quality.
- Review inspection results, approve documentation, and ensure quality records and nonconformance reports are complete and accurate.
- Support first article inspections, capability checks, validation activities, and process verification for new and existing parts directed by the quality manager.
- Partner with production, welding, engineering, and supervisors to investigate root causes, implement corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
- Monitor fabrication processes and quality trends to reduce scrap, rework, and quality escapes.
- Support calibration systems, audit readiness, customer quality requirements, and internal quality system compliance.
- With direction from quality manager, implement lean, 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or an associate degree in manufacturing, quality, machining, welding, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, metal fabrication, machining, welding inspection, or quality inspection.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
- Advanced working knowledge of measurement tools, inspection methods, and fabrication quality requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate defects, support root cause analysis, and drive corrective action follow-up.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation accuracy, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems used for data entry, reports, quality documentation, and production support.
Preferred Skills:
- MUST be a team player and be able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
- Experience in sheet metal, structural steel, or custom fabrication environments.
- Strong familiarity with welding symbols, weld inspection criteria, and fabrication processes such as laser cutting, bending, machining, and assembly.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems, first article inspection, nonconformance/corrective action processes, and audit support.
- Knowledge of SPC, sampling methods, and root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why, fishbone diagrams, or similar problem-solving methods.
- Experience using ERP, MRP, or quality management software.
- ASQ quality certification, welding inspection training, GD&T training, or equivalent advanced quality credentials are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout a manufacturing facility during the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 25-50 pounds, with or without accommodation, depending on job duties.
- Visual ability to inspect parts, read drawings, and use precision measuring tools.
- Ability to work safely around fabrication equipment and in an industrial environment that may include noise, dust, and changing temperatures.
