Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and highly motivated Maintenance Mechanic to join our facilities team at Canterbury School. We are a preparatory boarding school, grades 9-12, located in New Milford CT. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, functional and inviting campus environment for students, faculty, staff and visiting families. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes pride in their work and thrives in a team oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on campus buildings and systems
- Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other mechanical systems
- Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure optimal operation of facilities and equipment
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and campus work orders
- Assist with campus projects, renovations, and seasonal tasks (e.g., snow removal, event setups and breakdowns)
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace in a clean, organized, and safe condition
- Follow all safety procedures and comply with applicable codes and regulations
- Collaborate with other facilities staff and departments to support campus needs
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred
- Demonstrated experience in general maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, and building systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school, campus, or institutional setting
- Basic knowledge of HVAC systems
- Carpentry

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
