The Role:
As the Associate Chemist, reporting to the Manager - Application Lab, Rubber, you will be responsible for performing complex laboratory operations with minimal supervision, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to chemical research, analytical testing, and application development. You will recommend alternative or supporting approaches to address laboratory needs and contributes to the development of new products, procedures, and test methods. You will conducts analyses using analytical tools and applications, supports internal and external customers by providing technical solutions, and serves as a knowledgeable resource within the functional area.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Performs complex experiments under minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work and contribute to a team environment.
- Issues reports in verbal and written formats in a timely fashion and at specified intervals.
- Handles multiple assignments and coordinates with others.
- Assists in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment.
- Develops proficiency in communication skills within functional units.
- Able to independently operate the primary equipment in the application lab including basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance skills.
- Knowledgeable in the operation of Internal mixers, two-roll mills and small-scale extruders.
- Is knowledgeable of hazardous/non-hazardous waste generation practices.
- Maintains equipment in working order.
- Independently conducts simple and routine analytical qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical testing.
- Operate rubber testing instrumentation such as Rheometers, Physical testing equipment, DMA, etc.
- Evaluate materials for compliance with standards and specifications.
- Maintain and periodically review and revise inventory of rubber chemicals.
- Maintains legible, neat and organized laboratory records.
- Adhere to company EH&S regulations, SI Group Responsible Care practices and ISO 9000 programs
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory and working environment.
- Works with supervision to ensure data integrity and verify that their work is correct.
Maintains established quality control documentation.

Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
- BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or any physical sciences with at least 2 years related industrial experience
Experience in rubber and/or adhesives preferred
