Controller Overview
- This is a hands-on financial leadership position working directly with the CFO and executive management. The Controller will lead the accounting function, ensure accurate and timely financial and job-cost reporting, and have significant responsibility for improving accounting processes, controls, and financial systems.
Controller Responsibilities
- Lead monthly close and ensure timely and accurate financial statements
- Maintain general ledger accuracy and balance sheet integrity
- Oversee job-cost accounting, project cost reporting, and contract-related financial reporting
- Analyze project profitability, operating costs, margins, and asset utilization
- Establish, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Supervise and develop accounting staff and manage accounting workflows
- Review and authorize purchase orders, invoices, and other financial transactions
- Oversee bank reconciliations, cash reporting, and financial record integrity
- Identify accounting discrepancies, control weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvement
- Develop and improve financial reporting for management decision-making
- Coordinate external audits and provide required financial documentation
- Work directly with the CFO, CEO, and operations management on financial performance and business decisions
Controller Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; substantial relevant accounting experience will be considered
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Construction accounting, job-cost accounting, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
- Experience supervising and developing accounting staff
- Experience with construction ERP systems such as Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, ComputerEase, or similar
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and internal controls
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and produce accurate financial information in a fast-paced operating environment
- Ability to work independently, identify problems, and drive them through resolution
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
