Essential Duties
Evaluates and provides treatment of patients referred for psychiatric services by mental health or medical staff in a timely manner.
Ensures uniformity of mental health services and documentation of psychiatric treatment and services; and monitoring of medications in compliance with policies and procedures.
Coordinates medical consultations and lab work needed with the Health Services Administrator and Site Medical Director as needed.
Monitors patients prescribed psychotropic medications to assess treatment effectiveness and medication side effects by psychiatric interview at least every 90 days.
Provides supervision and oversight of psychiatric nurse(s), if needed at other facilities.
Ensures support services and monitoring of patients as needed by submitting a referral to mental health staff.
Evaluates patients referred potentially in need of transfer to specialized internal mental health facility or community mental health facility.

Knowledge of treatment approaches, evidence-based practices and assessment standards.
Knowledge and expertise in mental health, and the diagnosis and treatment of individuals.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds with prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting at a desk, viewing a computer and reading a variety of materials. Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with your hand or hands. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks, such as typing for extended periods of time.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a correctional healthcare environment with exposure to noise, communicable diseases, controlled access areas, and unpredictable conditions. Employees must comply with all safety, security, infection control and emergency response protocols. Summary
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare to incarcerated patients, ensuring high-quality medical care tailored to the unique needs of the inmate population within a correctional facility. The Psychiatrist is also responsible for recommending strategies for optimal delivery of multidisciplinary health care and maintaining clinical practice policy and procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes. This position will report directly to the Psychiatric Medical Director.
