Job Description
Job Title: Construction Assistant
Reports To: Construction Foreman
Position Summary
The Skilled Construction Laborer is responsible for completing assigned construction tasks while following safe construction practices and ensuring all work meets Habitat for Humanity of Metro Louisville (HFHML) standards and applicable state and federal building codes.
Construction duties may include, but are not limited to, digging and pouring footers, forming and pouring concrete flatwork, house framing, operating heavy equipment, siding installation, cabinet installation, interior trim work, luan installation, jobsite preparation, and jobsite cleanup.
Essential Functions
- Complete assigned construction tasks within established schedules and timeframes.
- Ensure all assigned work meets HFHML construction standards and applicable state and federal building codes.
- Follow the direction, instruction, and training provided by the Construction Foreman.
- Lead and work alongside community volunteers on construction tasks as needed.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
- Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with volunteers, staff, subcontractors, and other members of the construction team.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Properly use and care for construction tools, equipment, and materials.
- Perform other construction-related duties as assigned by the Construction Foreman.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Reliable, dependable, and hardworking.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding construction work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Previous construction experience or skilled trade experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform construction-related activities, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of hands to operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to regularly reach, talk, hear, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to travel between Habitat worksites as needed.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions and elevated noise levels.
