Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmissions across designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load and unload freight using forklifts or other equipment when necessary, ensuring cargo integrity and proper handling.
- Drive various types of trucks including refrigerated trailers for perishable goods, flatbeds for oversized loads, tankers for liquids, and roll-off trucks for waste or scrap materials.
- Manage route driving efficiently by planning optimal paths to meet delivery schedules while minimizing delays.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, tires, lights, and load securement.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries, provide updates, and resolve any issues promptly.
- Assist with load & unload operations as needed to ensure cargo is handled safely and efficiently.
- Follow all safety protocols related to operating refrigerated trailers or specialized equipment such as dump trucks or tanker trucks.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating manual transmission preferred.
- Proven truck driving experience with a focus on freight delivery; familiarity with route driving is highly desirable.
- Experience handling various truck types including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks is a plus.
- Ability to load & unload freight safely using forklifts or manual methods; forklift certification is advantageous.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to commercial driving and cargo securement standards.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating deliveries and maintaining professional customer interactions.
- Physical ability to perform load & unload tasks and conduct vehicle inspections regularly.
