Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and safety-conscious Class A Port Driver to join our dynamic logistics team. This is (1099) independent contractor position. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles to transport freight, hazardous materials, and specialized cargo within port facilities and over the road routes. Your expertise in truck driving, cargo handling, and adherence to federal and state regulations will ensure timely deliveries and maintain our reputation for excellence. Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A tractor-trailers, ensuring compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transport.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems while adhering to designated over-the-road (OTR) driving routes.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo manifests, delivery documentation, and inspection reports in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before departure or upon return.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and clients to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and route adjustments as needed.
Requirements
- Valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Twic card
- 2 years of driving experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including delivery driving and route driving across diverse terrains.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tanker trucks, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and freight handling equipment such as forklifts.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT regulations, hazardous materials regulations, and safety standards for transporting dangerous goods.
- Ability to manually handle cargo safely and efficiently while adhering to load & unload procedures.
- Experience with manual transmission trucks is preferred but not mandatory; must be comfortable operating manual vehicles if applicable.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling processes and truck loading/unloading techniques.
- Excellent navigation skills utilizing GPS systems for efficient route planning on over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects regularly and perform manual handling tasks safely.
- Commitment to safety protocols and continuous compliance with transportation laws governing commercial driving.
