DNA Analyst (Lorton, VA) – Partial Telecommuting Permissible. (multiple positions).
Perform DNA analysis on databasing samples, human identification samples, forensic custom
casework, and high throughput casework; Analyze and interpret DNA results using established
interpretation guidelines; Study and report findings, and complete documentation to support
these findings; Lead client projects from analysis through shipment of final results (e.g.,
reports, CMF files, etc.); and Testify in court to the results of DNA analysis performed.
Requires a Master’s degree or in Forensic Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Forensic Science or related field, and two years (24 months) of work experience in the job offered or any position in which the required experience was gained. Also requires two (2) years of work experience with: 1) Hands-on experience performing forensic DNA testing processes (DNA extraction, quantification, PCR, capillary electrophoresis) in a forensic DNA laboratory setting; 2) Maintaining chain of custody, performing evidence handling and lab testing adhering to ISO17025:2017 and FBI Quality Assurance Standards for forensic DNA testing; 3) Utilizing the QIAGEN Investigator STAR Lyse&Prep Kit and the EZ1 DNA Investigator Kit to purify genomic DNA; 4) Operating and troubleshooting robotics, such as the Hamilton Vantage, the EZ1 Advanced for DNA extraction, and Hamilton STARlet; 5) Performing quantification using Quantifiler Trio and BodeQuant LCN on a Real-Time Quantitative PCR 7500, amplification using systems such as GlobalFiler, and capillary electrophoresis on the Applied Biosystems 3500XL Genetic Analyzer; 6) Presenting or explaining the scientific process to internal and external audiences for use in court testimony; and 7) Utilizing Laboratory Information Management System for sample management, tracking secondary evidence, and documenting procedures performed and reagents used.
