American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of nursing experience and tracheostomy care skills.

Located on a Pulmonary Medicine stepdown unit (A7E PMCU) within the main campus of a hospital in Asheville, NC
-
Unit consists of 23 step-down beds and 16 med-surg beds
-
Patient ratios are 1:3-4 on the step-down side and 1:4-6 on the med-surg side
-
Patient population includes pulmonary medicine patients requiring step-down level care, including stable vented patients and those with trachs and chest tubes
-
Common procedures include trach care, chest tube management, wound dressing changes, and management of cardiac drips
-
Equipment includes lifts, chest tubes, and tracheostomy-related supplies
-
EMR is Cerner; prior experience preferred
-
Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts)

Requires 6 Saturday or Sunday shifts per 6-week period

Floating to other med-surg and progressive care units is required
-
13-week contract

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)

NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs

Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
-
Hands-on tracheostomy care experience required
-
US SSN and date of birth required for consideration

One professional reference required
-
No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position

Day shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, and 4 PCTs; night shift includes 1 charge nurse, 10 RNs, and 4 PCTs

Candidates with a flexible, adaptable personality and high clinical competence are the best fit for this unit

Navy blue scrubs are required

Cerner EMR experience is preferred but not required
