Job Summary
The Paving Foreman leads a paving crew on asphalt and related roadway, parking lot, and site paving projects in and around Thousand Oaks. This role is responsible for directing daily field operations, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and to spec, and serving as the primary link between the crew, the project superintendent, and the client on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and direct daily paving crew activities, including asphalt paving, grading, milling, and patching operations. Read and interpret grading plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure proper slopes, thickness, and compaction. Operate and/or oversee operation of paving equipment (pavers, rollers, skid steers, milling machines) and coordinate with truck drivers and material suppliers. Supervise, train, and schedule crew members; assign tasks and monitor productivity and quality of work. Enforce all job site safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies; conduct pre-shift safety talks. Coordinate material deliveries and quantities with dispatch to keep crews supplied and on schedule. Monitor asphalt temperatures, compaction density, and finish quality throughout the paving process. Communicate daily progress, delays, and issues to the Superintendent/Operations Manager. Maintain accurate daily reports, time cards, material tickets, and job site documentation. Ensure equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and operated safely; report mechanical issues promptly. Set up and maintain traffic control, signage, and site safety measures as required. Interface professionally with clients, inspectors, and other trades on-site.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or heavy civil construction, including at least 2 years in a lead or foreman role. Strong working knowledge of paving equipment, materials, and industry best practices. Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and specifications. Proven leadership and crew management skills. Valid driver's license; Class A or B CDL preferred. OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred. Strong communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods. Ability to work early morning hours and occasional overtime or weekend shifts based on project needs.
