Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
Summary / Statement of Work:
The Logistics Manager (Canada) is responsible for leading all transportation, freight, and fleet operations across Canada, including cross-border logistics with the United States. This role ensures efficient, cost-effective movement of goods, strong carrier performance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of logistics processes while supporting internal stakeholders and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation & Carrier Management
- Develop and execute transportation strategies for inbound and outbound freight across Canada and cross-border lanes.
- Ensure center lead carrier contracts, rates, and service agreements are handled in accordance with the overall logistics strategy to optimize cost and performance.
- Manage day-to-day carrier relationships, including performance reviews and issue escalation.
- Provide oversight for outbound routing, scheduling, and carrier selection in support of the logistics strategy.
- Oversee inbound freight coordination from suppliers and international sources.
Logistics Operations
- Provide oversight for shipment planning, scheduling, and execution across distribution centers and branches.
- Ensure timely and accurate movement of goods aligned with customer and business requirements.
- Manage container movements, including bookings, releases (telex), and coordination with freight forwarders.
- Partner with purchasing and materials teams to align inbound flow and inventory needs.
- Support new customer or branch setups with logistics planning and cost analysis.
Freight Analysis & Cost Management
- Analyze freight spend, service levels, and operational performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Develop and maintain logistics KPIs and reporting on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce transportation costs.
Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement
- Lead resolution of delivery issues, delays, and service failures.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal teams and carriers to improve service reliability and operational performance.
Fleet & Asset Management
- Oversee company fleet operations within Canada, including maintenance, inspections, and vendor coordination (e.g., Penske).
- Manage equipment lifecycle, lease renewals, and capacity planning.
- Provide oversight for driver activity, including mileage reporting and payroll alignment.
- Ensure fleet compliance with regulatory requirements, including IFTA and applicable safety standards.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. transportation and cross-border regulations.
- Manage customs-related processes, documentation, and inquiries.
- Oversee vehicle licensing, registrations, and insurance compliance.
- Maintain adherence to all safety and regulatory standards.
Freight Audit & Payment
- Oversee freight invoice audit and payment processes.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between carriers, distribution centers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of all freight-related expenses.
Key Interfaces
- Transportation carriers and freight forwarders.
- Distribution centers and branch operations.
- Purchasing, materials, and supply chain teams.
- Fleet service providers, including Penske.
- Customs brokers and compliance partners.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education Level and Area of Study (Required or Preferred): Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
# Years Experience: 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management.
Skills / Knowledge :
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. cross-border logistics and regulations.
- Experience with carrier negotiations and freight cost management.
- Experience with TMS/ERP systems preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and reporting skills.
