EMBODY WOMEN’S HEALTH
Location: Wilmington / Carolina Beach, NC
Position Type: Part-Time | PRN
Department: Women’s Health
INTERNATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED LACTATION CONSULTANT (IBCLC)
Job Overview
EMBODY Women’s Health is building a more connected approach to women’s healthcare—one that supports women through every stage of life, including pregnancy, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and the transition into motherhood.
We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to join our growing women’s health team.
As an IBCLC at EMBODY Women’s Health, you will provide individualized lactation education, counseling, and support while becoming an important part of the patient’s broader healthcare experience. You will work with women during pregnancy and postpartum, helping them navigate breastfeeding, infant feeding, maternal wellness, recovery, and the physical and emotional changes that come with becoming a mother.
This role is about more than breastfeeding support.
At EMBODY, we believe lactation care should be connected to the whole woman. You will take into consideration each patient’s medical history, physical health, emotional well-being, lifestyle, culture, family structure, feeding goals, and overall postpartum experience when developing individualized care plans.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with EMBODY Women’s Health providers and other healthcare professionals to create a supportive, patient-centered experience from pregnancy through postpartum and beyond.
This is a paid position designed for an IBCLC who is passionate about women’s health, patient education, maternal wellness, and helping women feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their transition into motherhood.
What You’ll Do
Lactation & Infant Feeding Support
- Provide comprehensive lactation assessments and individualized consultations for prenatal, postpartum, and breastfeeding patients.
- Evaluate breastfeeding and infant-feeding concerns and develop personalized feeding plans based on each patient’s needs and goals.
- Support women experiencing common breastfeeding challenges, including latch concerns, milk supply concerns, pumping challenges, painful feeding, engorgement, and other lactation-related concerns.
- Provide education on breastfeeding techniques, positioning, attachment, pumping, milk expression, milk supply, lactation physiology, and safe infant-feeding practices.
- Support patients with their individual feeding goals, including breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, and other appropriate infant-feeding plans.
- Provide evidence-based education while respecting each patient’s personal choices and goals.
- Help women feel confident and informed rather than pressured or judged throughout their feeding journey.
Pregnancy & Postpartum Care
At EMBODY Women’s Health, lactation support is part of a larger continuum of women’s healthcare.
You will:
- Provide prenatal education to help women prepare for breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and the transition into motherhood.
- Support women during the early postpartum period and provide ongoing follow-up as needed.
- Address the relationship between maternal wellness, postpartum recovery, nutrition, sleep, stress, physical health, and breastfeeding.
- Educate patients regarding maternal nutrition, breast health, infant nutrition, and other factors that may influence breastfeeding and maternal well-being.
- Recognize common physical and emotional challenges associated with pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
- Help patients identify concerns that may require additional medical, nutritional, behavioral health, or rehabilitative support.
- Coordinate appropriate referrals when concerns fall outside the scope of lactation care.
- Provide continuity of care and help patients navigate additional EMBODY Women’s Health services when appropriate.
Patient Education & Counseling
- Provide individualized education and counseling based on each patient’s medical history, lifestyle, culture, family needs, and personal goals.
- Explain lactation and infant-feeding information in a clear, approachable, and supportive manner.
- Help patients understand their options and make informed decisions about their health and feeding goals.
- Provide compassionate support during what can be a physically and emotionally challenging period of life.
- Use a woman-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach to patient care.
- Maintain professional boundaries while creating an environment where patients feel comfortable discussing sensitive health concerns.
- Empower women with practical education and resources they can use at home.
