Finance & Accounting ManagerPosition Summary
The Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the funeral home, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management. This role manages accounting functions, budgeting, cash flow, payroll oversight, accounts payable and receivable, trust and preneed accounting, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, ethical, and experienced in both accounting principles and the unique financial requirements of the funeral service industry.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor cash flow and maintain adequate operating liquidity.
- Analyze financial performance and recommend improvements to increase profitability and operational efficiency.
- Prepare financial reports for ownership and senior leadership.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee the general ledger and ensure accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and fixed assets.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and financial reviews with external CPA firms.
Funeral Industry Financial Administration
- Manage preneed trust accounting and insurance-funded contracts.
- Ensure compliance with state funeral board regulations and trust reporting requirements.
- Reconcile trust accounts and monitor funding requirements.
- Track merchandise inventory and cost of goods sold.
- Review contract pricing, payment plans, and financing arrangements.
Payroll & Human Resources Support
- Oversee payroll processing and payroll tax compliance.
- Administer employee benefits invoicing and related accounting.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal and state labor regulations.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Establish and maintain internal accounting controls.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and client information.
- Assist with insurance renewals, licensing, and business reporting requirements.
Leadership
- Supervise accounting and administrative staff, as applicable.
- Train team members on accounting procedures and financial policies.
- Collaborate with funeral directors and management to support operational and financial goals.
- Participate in strategic planning and business growth initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with management experience preferred.
- Experience in the funeral service industry or another highly regulated service industry is preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with accounting software, payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and discretion with confidential information.

Pay: $24.89 - $29.97 per hour
