Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Crew Supervision & Leadership
- Direct, supervise, and coordinate daily activities of concrete crews.
- Assign tasks and ensure employees understand project requirements and expectations.
- Train employees on proper concrete placement, finishing techniques, and safe work practices.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, attendance, and compliance with company policies.
- Maintain communication with project managers, inspectors, and customers.
Roadway Concrete Construction
- Perform and oversee roadway concrete work including:
- Concrete paving
- Sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage structures
- Concrete slabs and roadway improvements
- Concrete repairs and replacement
- ADA ramps and pedestrian improvements
- Joint installation and sealing
- Form setting and removal
- Reinforcing steel and concrete preparation
- Set forms, check grades, and verify elevations prior to concrete placement.
- Direct concrete placement operations including:
- Screeding
- Floating
- Troweling
- Broom finishing
- Edge finishing
- Joint cutting and sealing
- Curing procedures
- Ensure proper finishing techniques are used to meet project specifications.
Quality Control
- Ensure concrete work meets project specifications, plans, and inspection requirements.
- Monitor concrete placement for proper:
- Thickness
- Grade
- Slope
- Finish
- Alignment
- Joint placement
- Curing requirements
- Coordinate with inspectors and project management regarding inspections and corrections.
- Identify and correct workmanship issues before project completion.
Safety Responsibilities
- Lead daily safety meetings and job hazard discussions.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Maintain awareness of hazards related to:
- Heavy equipment
- Traffic control
- Wet concrete exposure
- Heat and weather conditions
- Lifting and material handling
- Report accidents, injuries, hazards, and near misses immediately.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily reports including:
- Crew hours
- Equipment usage
- Concrete quantities
- Production completed
- Materials used
- Jobsite conditions
- Delays or issues
- Communicate project progress and concerns to management.
- Coordinate work activities with subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in roadway concrete construction preferred.
- Experience as a concrete finisher required.
- Strong knowledge of concrete placement, finishing, forming, and curing methods.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Experience working on municipal, roadway, or infrastructure projects preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift materials for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required safety equipment.
Work Schedule
Early mornings, overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required based on project schedules and concrete placement requirements
