E-Commerce Product Development Specialist
Location: 3-4 days in-office in Fulton, MD
Compensation: $50,000/year Base + Performance-Based Bonus (Typical bonus range: $20,000–$50,000/year, based on product launch performance)
Company Overview
At Fulton Imports, we specialize in building and scaling private label e-commerce brands. We operate a high-volume, dynamic supply chain, launching approximately 300 new physical SKUs annually. We don't just launch products — we find gaps in the market and figure out how to win, from identifying distinct market opportunities to optimizing product differentiation and executing profitable launches from concept to final market entry.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, commercially minded E-Commerce Product Development Specialist. If you are incredibly smart, fiercely competitive, and eager to learn the physical product supply chain from the ground up, this role is your launchpad.
In this position, you'll be given a target consumer need (e.g., a children's climbing set) and tasked with figuring out how we successfully enter and compete in that category — analyzing the competition, proposing creative differentiators, and validating the financial case for your ideas.
You will manage the product lifecycle through financial vetting, sample inspection, and cross-functional coordination. Most importantly, you will be rewarded directly for launches that perform. Most specialists in this role earn $20,000 or more in annual bonus, with top performers earning up to $50,000 — bringing realistic total compensation to $70,000–$100,000. This position is built for a results-driven professional who wants to bet on their own performance and enjoys owning a product from idea to production.
Note: This is not a digital marketing or software development role. You'll be working with physical, tangible products from concept through manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Differentiation & Market Research (25%): Analyze targeted market segments to identify gaps in current competitor offerings. Propose strategic product improvements and differentiators to capture market share.
- Documentation & Handoff (30%): Produce meticulous, comprehensive handoff documentation detailing final specifications, design requirements, and production notes to ensure a seamless transition to our factory teams.
- Financial Vetting & Strategy (15%): Evaluate factory quotes, calculate projected margins, and conduct financial analyses to ensure product profitability.
- Project Initiation (15%): Develop precise project briefs within our project management system, outlining core product specifications and value propositions to initiate the quoting process with our sourcing team.
- Sample Inspection & Quality Assurance (15%): Conduct hands-on reviews of physical product samples, assessing structural integrity, functionality, and aesthetics — identifying necessary improvements prior to mass production.
Experience & Requirements
- Experience: 0–2 years of professional experience. We care much more about your aptitude, problem-solving skills, and work ethic than a long resume. This is an ideal role for a sharp recent graduate, an entrepreneurial thinker, or a career pivoter eager to learn.
- Commercial Mindset: A strong competitive drive and proven ability to think strategically. You must be highly motivated by performance-based incentives tied directly to your success.
- Curiosity & Problem Solving: You don't need to know how to manufacture a product yet, but you must be the type of person who can obsessively research a category, figure out why consumers hate the current options, and propose actionable solutions.
- Analytical Proficiency: Strong financial acumen with the ability to learn margin calculations, analyze pricing structures, and manage data within Excel.
- Exceptional Organization: You will be juggling multiple product launches at once. Flawless organizational and written communication skills are a hard requirement.
- Bonus Skills (Not Required, but a Plus): Any prior experience running your own side hustle (eBay, Etsy, Shopify), familiarity with Amazon market research tools (Helium 10, Jungle Scout), or basic mechanical/engineering intuition.
