ZI Machine Manufacturing is looking for an experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinist to join our team. We are a family-owned precision machining company established in 1983, specializing in CNC turning and milling primarily for the aerospace and defense industries.
We're looking for a skilled machinist who can take ownership of a job from setup through production and solve machining problems without being micromanaged.

What you'll be doing
As a CNC Lathe Setup Machinist, you'll be responsible for setting up and proving out CNC turning jobs and helping ensure they run efficiently and produce quality parts.
Responsibilities include:
- Complete CNC lathe setups from start to finish
- Read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
- Optimize cutting conditions, tool paths, speeds and feeds
- Edit and troubleshoot G & M code at the machine
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts and workholding
- Prove out programs and make adjustments to produce conforming parts
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling and dimensional problems
- Develop fixtures and workholding solutions when required
- Create clear setup and operating instructions
- Work closely with Quality Control to ensure parts meet print requirements
- Help optimize processes for quality, cycle time and tool life
- Train and support CNC operators as they develop their machining skills
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of CNC lathe setup experience in a job-shop environment preferred
- Strong understanding of CNC turning
- Advanced knowledge of cutting tool selection
- Strong understanding of speeds and feeds
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Ability to edit and optimize G & M code
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and dimensional problems independently
- Experience designing or modifying fixtures and workholding
- Ability to independently complete a setup and bring a job into production
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work effectively with operators, other machinists and Quality Control
- Ability and willingness to train less-experienced machinists and operators
Twin-spindle and twin-turret experience is a strong plus.
