SUMMARY
The Dean of Students will assist the building principal and assistant principal in providing leadership by supporting the school culture and climate, facilitating PBIS efforts, and co-leading efforts related to achieving the identified school improvement goals in service of the FWPS district strategic plan. In addition, the Dean of Students will foster an environment that meets the social and emotional needs of all students, models high expectations, builds the capacity of staff, and engages in data-driven decision-making.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- WA State Principal Certification.
- Master’s degree in education.
- Three years of teaching/counseling experience.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate subject area endorsement(s).
- Actively enrolled in a program to be certified as a School Administrator.
- Ability to contribute to a safe and caring school culture focused on the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff.
- Knowledge of the high school philosophy, curriculum, and instruction, including an understanding of the instruction process and a variety of instructional techniques as well as a commitment to the improvement of instructional programs.
- Ability to be fair and consistent with all students.
- Demonstrated successful experiences in staff leadership, motivation, and setting high-performance standards, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with teachers to improve instruction.
- Demonstrated success in developing effective working relationships and collaborating with others to resolve conflicts.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, scheduling, and allocating resources, reaching logical conclusions, and using appropriate decision-making processes.
- Experience using computer technologies to enhance instruction and manage building functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work closely with building administrators and be a team player.
- Contribute and model engagement in a school climate that promotes opportunities for all students, focusing on good conduct, positive attitudes, and individuals who value accepting responsibility for their attendance, conduct, health, and safety.
- Assist in the development, ongoing improvement, and implementation of the district and school curricular program.
- Facilitate communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
- Serve as a model and support for staff in effective student discipline and re-engagement.
- Analyze student attendance data and work with school staff to implement interventions.
- Lead staff, students, and the community in the development and implementation of building-level goals focused on the improvement of student learning.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of the instructional program for the school.
- Interpret and implement board policies and administrative regulations.
- Be visible throughout the day and greet students as they arrive and depart from the campus.
- Actively monitor and supervise students at breakfast, lunch, and after school (including evening activities).
- Work cooperatively with administrators, assistant superintendent, and other appropriate district supervisors on progress, problems, and other information regarding the school’s program.
- Assist with performance monitoring and evaluation of classified staff.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret school and student performance data.
- Actively participate as a member of the building learning improvement team for academic achievement.
- Assist in implementing district-wide assessments.
- Plan, prioritize, and complete assigned responsibilities independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Flexible hours required; this position will require attendance at evening activities. Work is performed in an office setting inside a school building, with and without students present, and regularly works near a video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work requires regular use of a computer, telephone, and office equipment, including, but not limited to, copiers, faxes, printers, audio-visual equipment, and filing cabinets.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach above and below their shoulders and bend/twist at the waist. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work year to be determined by the negotiated agreement.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.

SICK LEAVE - All regular, non-substitute employees receive 12 sick leave days (prorated based on FTE) and paid time off. Substitute employees receive sick leave per RCW 49.46.210.
PAID TIME OFF - All regular, non-substitute employees receive paid time off, including annual and/or vacation leave. Paid time off varies by position and work year. Refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or salary schedule for details.
