Urban Corps of San Diego County is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Licensed Herbicide & Pesticide Applicator to support vegetation management and environmental restoration projects throughout San Diego County.
This position is responsible for the safe and effective application of herbicides and pesticides in accordance with all state and federal regulations. The successful candidate will also train and certify Urban Corps employees in proper herbicide and pesticide application procedures, ensuring compliance with California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) requirements and organizational safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Apply herbicides and pesticides safely and effectively according to label requirements and applicable regulations.
- Develop and deliver training for Urban Corps staff on the safe handling, mixing, application, storage, and disposal of herbicides and pesticides.
- Provide the supervision, instruction, and documentation necessary for employees to become qualified and authorized to perform pesticide applications in accordance with California DPR regulations.
- Evaluate employee competency and maintain required training and certification records.
- Identify invasive weeds and target vegetation.
- Mix, measure, and calibrate application equipment.
- Maintain accurate pesticide application records and reports.
- Ensure pesticide reports are submitted to safety officer timely for uploading to DPR website.
- Inspect and maintain spray equipment and tools.
- Follow all OSHA, Cal/OSHA, DPR, and company safety policies.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Collaborate with project supervisors and field crews to complete vegetation management projects on schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) with pest control categories B & C.
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising pesticide applicators preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) laws and regulations.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and write in English.
- Valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of herbicide application techniques, plant identification, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in vegetation management, habitat restoration, or right-of-way maintenance.
- Experience operating backpack sprayers, UTV sprayers, and related application equipment.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plant species found in Southern California.
