What We Do
The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is a non-profit organization with over 40 years of dedication to the protection and conservation of Florida’s wildlife and natural resources. To accomplish this goal the Sanctuary has a twofold mission of wildlife rehabilitationand environmental education. We rescue sick, injured, or orphaned native Florida wildlife with the goal of returning them to the wild. Last year we had over 5,200 patients come into our hospital. Ninety percent of the patients admitted each year to the Sanctuary’s wildlife rehabilitation center have suffered from some type of human-related injury. Collisions with automobiles, fishing line entanglement, illegal gunshots, poisonings, and electrocutions, are only a small example of the types of injuries that are regularly treated and why education of the public is so important.
Position
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, this position performs a variety of maintenance tasks related to preventative maintenance, cleaning, and construction at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary.

· Schedule: Regular work hours are generally Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Weekends may be required.
· Location: This position requires the Maintenance Assistant to work from BWS in Jupiter, FL.
Essential Responsibilities
- Cleaning and stocking public and staff restrooms.
- Cleaning public areas and staff areas including the Discovery center, gift shop, commissary, employee breakroom, conference room, amphitheater, administration and other areas.
- Assisting with maintenance of pools and pumps as directed.
- Working with the Maintenance Coordinator on construction and repair projects in public buildings and animal enclosures.
- Cleaning buildings, washing windows, and cleaning gutters as directed.
- Painting interior and exterior walls and trim as directed.
- Driving vehicles, loading fallen tree limbs and trash, and delivering refuse to dumpster on site.
- Collecting trash and recycling daily and sorting in proper bins.
- Operating equipment as needed to maintain paths, sidewalks, and driveways.
- Under the direction of the Maintenance Coordinator, maintaining vehicles and golf carts as needed.
- Cutting grass, trimming trees and weeds, weed eating, and planting trees and bushes as directed.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver's license
