Job Description
The Operations Specialist I role directs and supports service centers in improving compliance with ABF Operations and Safety requirements and processes. This role also drives improvement across all KPIs, including but not limited to density-adjusted raw load average, transit compliance, claim prevention, and DSY productivity. This position plans, supervises, and manages available resources to ensure the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts. The Operations Specialist occasionally travels to service centers to evaluate operational and safety processes, and educate and train management and DSY employees on ABF policies and procedures, including proper freight handling, follow-up, corrective actions, and preventative measures.
Responsibilities
- Direct and support service center management teams in improving all KPIs, including but not limited to density-adjusted raw load average, transit compliance, claim prevention, and DSY productivity.
- Maintain and improve the transit time performance measurement systems and failure identification.
- Oversee the process of providing on-site planning, supervision, and control of available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on all shifts at assigned service centers.
- Gather and analyze data to identify patterns of service center needs and present these findings to the Operations team, as needed.
- Detail and explain the basic operations metrics and outline a plan to drive results.
- Motivate, counsel, coach, and develop operations specialists as future leaders for management teams.
- Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary recommendations as needed, to local management.
- Manage multiple concurrent goals aligned with producing efficient and reliable service throughout our network.
- Focus on system-level operational objectives including transit time, claims prevention, appointment compliance, and pickup fulfillment.
- Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage of hazardous materials.
- Facilitate an environment of customer obsession and cross-functional collaboration with all ArcBest divisions.
- Maintain appropriate load plans and ensure proper load balance for safe vehicle operation.
- Assign tasks to employees; coordinate work assignments and monitor performance.
- Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
- Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred
Experience:
- Service center, transportation, and/or other supply chain experience, preferred
- Supervisory experience, preferred
- ABF operations experience, preferred
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient in ABF operations systems (DMS and/or Legacy).
Additional Requirements:
- Working knowledge of freight, imports, exports, and proper freight handling techniques.

Work Hours:
- Work hours vary based on scheduling to provide system coverage, including nights, weekends, and travel time.

- This is a salary position paid biweekly.
