Job Overview
The Financial Coach will support a Monroe County Division of Social Services (MCDSS) project designed to explore how public benefits eligibility impacts employees' willingness to accept increased work hours, promotions, and career advancement opportunities. The Financial Coach will work directly with participating employees to provide personalized financial coaching, support self-sufficiency planning, and help participants navigate financial decisions related to employment and public benefits. Coaching sessions will be conducted primarily at participating employers' worksites and may include both individual and group-based interactions.
This position would be located in our Rochester, New York Branch at 1050 University Ave, Suite A, Rochester, NY 14607 and at local participating employers' worksites, and is for a Full-Time role.
Responsibilities:
- Asses client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client.
- Provide individualized financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and help clients to successfully reduce debt, increase savings, increase credit scores, and improve bankability.
- Connect clients to appropriate financial services that would assist them in achieving their financial goals.
- Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e. benefits, tax preparation) into counseling to achieve greater results;
- Engage in ongoing follow-up with clients.
- Collect, track and report required data using client management database.
- Participate in initial training and ongoing professional development training.
- Follow required protocol and program requirements.
- Participate in outreach activities with targeted partners.
- Other tasks, as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Bilingual given additional consideration.
- Must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and the ability to travel to various worksite locations as required.
- Background in any of the following: financial services, social work, financial planning, coaching/mentoring, teaching, or other related fields.
- Proven success working with diverse populations; ability to inspire, support, and guide individuals towards their goals
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment.
- A patient and empathetic attitude
- Exceptional interpersonal and rapport building skills and feels comfortable developing relationships with various stakeholders (i.e. community organizations, businesses, etc.)
- Great active listening skills
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate concisely.
- Problem solving skills and attention for detail.
- Ability to multi-task
- Retention focused skill set.
- Computer literacy
- Available to work some evenings and weekends.
Must be able to pass the counseling certification exam administered through the agency within the first 6 months of hire.

Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $24.00/hour
