The Covington County Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Communications Director. This is a full-time position responsible for overseeing the County’s external communications, media relations, public information activities, and overall public image.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Communications Director develops and coordinates public communications on behalf of the Covington County Commission. This position manages media relations, press releases, social media platforms, website content, public events, and communication strategies across County departments.
The Communications Director also responds to media inquiries, assists with speeches and presentations, represents the County at assigned events, maintains relationships with members of the media, and oversees the communications budget. The successful candidate must be able to communicate professionally, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
Duties:
- Oversee the County’s external communications, media relations, and public information efforts
- Develop and distribute press releases, public notices, and other official communications
- Manage and update the County’s social media platforms and website content
- Coordinate media inquiries, interviews, press conferences, and public announcements
- Assist County officials with speeches, presentations, talking points, and informational materials
- Plan and organize public events and represent the County at events when assigned
- Collaborate with County departments to develop and implement effective communication strategies
- Maintain media relationships, oversee the communications budget, and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a closely related field preferred
- Equivalent education, training, and professional experience may be considered
- Three to five years of experience in public relations, communications, media relations, or a related field
- Excellent written, verbal, editing, and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with officials, employees, media representatives, and the public
- Experience managing social media, website content, press releases, and public communications
- Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively under pressure in sensitive or time-critical situations
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
