Why does the job exist?
The Inspector General will:
Prevent and detect fraud, waste and abuse in the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) public assistance programs, services and internal operations;
Conduct financial and program audits;
Conduct special reviews, criminal, civil, and administrative investigations;
Administer the Medicaid Program Integrity Unit and the Public Assistance Reporting Information System (PARIS) program;
Will reduce the impact of poverty in the State of New Mexico by providing adequate services;
Will assure low-income and disabled individuals in New Mexico equal participation in the community.
How does it get done?
The Inspector General is responsible for:
Directing all operations within the Office of Inspector General (OIG) which includes the Internal Audit Bureau, Investigations Bureau, Restitution Services Bureau as well as other programs and administrative staff;
Directing the development and establishment of missions and goals for OIG that are consistent with departmental missions and goals;
Promoting program effectiveness;
Establishing policies and procedures that are consistent with departmental missions and goals;
Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and statutes;
Ensuring that OIG can make a viable contribution to success of the Health Care Authority (HCA).

Minimum Qualification
Master's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and ten (10) years of executive level experience with a heavy strategic/functional strategy impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling sixteen (16) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include executive management and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
