Financial Analyst
Position Overview
At GPS Helm, we partner with business owners to navigate one of the most important milestones in their journey—the transition of their company. The M&A Financial Analyst / Associate plays a critical role in this process by delivering accurate financial insights, supporting transaction execution, and ensuring our clients are fully prepared for a successful outcome.
This position combines strong accounting expertise with advisory support, working closely with our leadership team and clients to analyze financial performance, prepare for market, and guide due diligence through closing.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred
- 3–7+ years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, or transaction advisory
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including financial cleanup, reporting, and data extraction
- Spectrum Accounting Software working knowledge
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (see detailed experience below)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word with the ability to prepare polished, client-ready deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and analyze P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow trends
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously
- Client-friendly personality with excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Advanced Microsoft Excel Experience (Required)
- Advanced proficiency in Excel with the ability to transform raw financial data into clear, actionable insights
- Extensive use of pivot tables to summarize large datasets, analyze trends, and present financial performance by period, customer, division, or revenue stream
- Experience with data imports/exports, including extracting financial data from QuickBooks Online and structuring it for analysis
- Strong command of formulas and functions, including:
- XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH for reconciliation and validation
- SUMIF/SUMIFS, COUNTIFS for categorized financial analysis
- IF statements for logic-driven calculations and exception flagging
- Ability to clean and normalize financial data, including removing duplicates, standardizing chart of accounts, and reclassifying expenses for EBITDA accuracy
- Build and maintain financial models, including:
- 3–5 year historical financial summaries
- Monthly trend and variance analysis (actual vs. budget)
- EBITDA adjustments and normalization schedules
- Create deal-ready schedules, such as:
- Revenue concentration analysis
- Customer and vendor breakdowns
- Cost structure summaries (as a % of revenue)
- Develop client-ready outputs, including:
- Clean, well-formatted financial summaries
- Charts and graphs illustrating trends and key insights
- Executive dashboards for leadership and client presentations
- Organize Excel workbooks to support data room readiness and due diligence requests
- Ensure accuracy by tying out financials across P&L, balance sheet, and supporting schedules
Core Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret client financial statements to assess performance, identify trends, and support valuation discussions
- Normalize financials and prepare adjusted earnings analysis (EBITDA) to accurately reflect business performance
- Extract and organize financial data from QuickBooks Online, Spectrum, and other systems for detailed analysis
- Build and maintain Excel-based financial models and supporting schedules
- Prepare clear, concise, and professional client deliverables, including financial summaries and supporting documentation
- Support the creation of marketing materials, including Confidential Information Memorandums (CIMs)
- Assist in due diligence by organizing financial data, responding to buyer requests, and tracking outstanding items
- Maintain well-structured and accurate virtual data rooms
- Collaborate with senior advisors to support deal strategy, pricing considerations, and buyer interactions
- Provide ongoing communication to internal teams regarding financial findings and transaction progress
- Track critical deadlines and ensure timely completion of all financial deliverables
Pay: $79,467.92 - $85,703.30 per year
