Position Overview
The Local Impact is seeking a dependable, hardworking Non-CDL Route Driver to service our clothing and shoe collection locations.
This is not just a driving position. It is an active, physically demanding job that combines driving, heavy lifting, outdoor work, and independent route responsibility.
Our Route Drivers safely operate a 16-foot box truck with air brakes, follow assigned collection routes, collect donated clothing and shoes, and make sure every collection location is left clean and professional.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a 16-foot box truck with air brakes.
- Complete assigned daily collection routes efficiently and on time.
- Empty clothing and shoe collection containers at multiple locations throughout the day.
- Load and unload large quantities of bagged clothing and shoes.
- Perform frequent lifting, carrying, bending, pushing, pulling, and climbing in and out of the truck. Work quickly and efficiently while maintaining safe work practices. Keep collection containers and the surrounding areas clean, neat, and free of loose donations or debris. Properly load and secure collected materials inside the truck. Complete required route paperwork and collection records accurately. Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Immediately report vehicle, collection-container, or location problems.
- Interact professionally with businesses, property owners, donors, and members of the public. Complete routes independently without constant supervision. Requirements Applicants must: Have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. Be comfortable safely driving a 16-foot box truck equipped with air brakes. Be able to repeatedly lift and move up to 50 pounds throughout the workday. Be capable of performing heavy physical labor during a typical 8-hour shift.
- Be able to work at a fast, consistent pace. Be punctual and dependable. Be self-motivated and comfortable working independently. Have good judgment and a strong commitment to safe driving. Be comfortable driving in city, suburban, and rural environments. Be able to safely back, park, and maneuver a box truck in parking lots and collection locations. Be able to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and changing weather conditions. Be comfortable using a smartphone or GPS for navigation and route information. Maintain a professional attitude while representing The Local Impact.
- Physical Requirements This is a physically demanding position. Drivers spend a significant portion of each shift getting in and out of the truck, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Applicants must be able to repeatedly lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds throughout an approximately 8-hour shift.
- The position requires the ability to maintain a steady work pace while performing repetitive physical tasks throughout the day.
