Locums Therapy Medical Physicist

DESCRIPTION:
This Position Description (PD) defines the program, training, and technical support services required for a board-certified therapeutic medical physicist (TMP). This is a locums position. The start date is targeted for September 2025 (a start in October is also a possibility). The work is on-site and in-person, and your presence in clinic is expected during normal business hours: 8: 00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday though Friday.
The work site is at the Minneapolis VAMC. The clinic address is: 1 Veterans Dr, Minneapolis, MN 55417.
POSITION DUTIES:
The medical physicist shall perform weekly chart checks, plan approvals, QA checks, and IMRT. Work is located at the Minneapolis VAMC Clinic which hosts 2 TrueBeam Linacs, 2 physicists, 2 dosimetrists, 6 radiation therapists, 2 physicians, and 15 to 20 patients per day total (fairly low workload). The physicist may perform work after normal business hours to complete calibrations and measurements once patient treatments are finished.
The physicist must be board-certified in therapeutic medical physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and must also have the following minimum years of experience on the following procedures, equipment, and software listed below under the “Relevant Experience” section.
Relevant Experience:
- Two (2) years experience in a Varian-based clinic (TrueBeam Linac).
- Two (2) years of experience: Documentation detailing experience in performing QA procedures.
- One (1) year of experience: Documentation detailing Therapeutic Medical Physics in a healthcare system that is ACR or ASTRO/APEX certified.
- One (1) year of experience: Brain Lab Accessories following standards of TG-142.
- One (1) year of experience: Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) including Cone Beam CT (following standards of TG-142).
- One (1) year of experience: Eclipse treatment planning system; and ARIA record & verify system, including the following treatment modalities: 2D/3DConformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT (following standards of TG-53).
- One (1) year of experience: IMRT QA: MapCheck I/II (or equivalent).
- One (1) year of experience: Toshiba CT Simulator (or equivalent) and following standards of TG-66.
- One (1) year of experience (optional): Using Superficial X-ray Machine.
Education and Certification:
- Master's Degree or higher is required. PhD is preferred.
- Must be Board-Certified with at least two years of continuous working experience within the last three (3) years to ensure TMP’s experience is current and relevant.
Security:
- A background check is required and will be conducted as a part of the onboarding process.
Travel:
- Travel is not expected in support of this effort.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $180.00 - $220.00 per hour
