Purpose
Professional degreed forester with direct financial and regulatory compliance responsibility for assigned management activities on the Roanoke Timberlands. A field oriented position with office work limited to project planning/management.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, implement and administer assigned activities to meet or exceed standards set by Roseburg, applicable regulations, and the SFI Standard. Assigned activities include the following:

Stumpage program projects

Property management projects
-
Fire suppression
-
Maintain safe working conditions and facilities for staff and promote safe work behaviors
-
Management of assigned projects within budget objectives
-
Project planning expanded to multi-year planning forecasts and basic economic analysis
-
Ensuring that contract work is done in full compliance with specifications and supporting staff as needed

Ensure that herbicide applications are done in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations
-
Manage workload and assigned service contractors with minimal supervision
-
Negotiate easements and other land use needs as requested
-
Represent the Company positively in all interactions with agencies and industry cooperators
-
Maintain good relationships with the public and neighbors at all times
-
Protect the Roanoke Timberlands from risk of loss due to fire or public abuse

Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, with 5+ years of proven field experience
-
Highly organized with ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
-
Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
-
Basic knowledge of herbicides, modes of action, and field application techniques
-
Basic knowledge of harvest equipment, harvest systems and harvest unit layout
-
Basic knowledge of forest inventory equipment and measurement techniques
-
Working knowledge of the BMPs for Water Quality in Virginia and North Carolina
-
Safety conscience and physically capable of working in forested environments and adverse terrain in all weather conditions

Ability to manage multiple projects and seasonally demanding workloads
-
Proficiency in MS Office and forestry related software

Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently

Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
-
