Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse - Unit Manager to oversee patient care operations within a dynamic healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, leadership skills, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulations. As a Unit Manager, you will coordinate nursing activities, supervise staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care across various departments. This role offers an opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining compliance with state and federal healthcare standards.
Duties
- Provide clinical oversight and leadership for nursing staff, ensuring adherence to care protocols and quality standards.
- Coordinate patient assessments, medical documentation, and care planning in accordance with HIPAA and long-term care regulations.
- Supervise daily operations within the unit, including staffing schedules, resource allocation, and workflow management.
- Oversee medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, and other specialized nursing interventions such as ventilator management and tube feeding.
- Ensure compliance with infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and safety protocols including basic life support (BLS) certification requirements.
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate discharge planning and utilization review processes.
- Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Cerner or Epic; ensure documentation meets regulatory standards.
- Lead staff training initiatives on topics such as ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), medical terminology, and new clinical procedures to promote continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current registration in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Proven leadership experience in nursing management within acute care settings such as ICU, emergency medicine, or trauma centers; Level I or Level II Trauma Center experience is preferred.
- Extensive clinical background including critical care experience, medical-surgical nursing, geriatrics, dementia care, or behavioral health.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical documentation and coding (ICD-9/10).
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA, long-term care regulations, and OSHA standards.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills with experience managing multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with physiology knowledge and familiarity with diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Additional qualifications such as ICU experience, dialysis training, or pediatric/neonatal ventilator expertise are advantageous.
