The City of Centerville is now hiring for the part-time position of Public Works Auxiliary Maintenance Worker - Engineering. The Public Works Department provides service-oriented functions for the City of Centerville and strives to deliver exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.
- Work under the general direction of the Public Works staff and applies knowledge of basic engineering principles.
- Ohio 811 (O.U.P.S.) field locating, tracking, and positive responses through online software and citizen and contractor interactions.
- Identify City-owned utilities (fiber optics, traffic signals, storm sewers, & irrigation systems), relate those to physical drawings, and resolve conflicting data.
- Lift and carry up to sixty (60) pounds at a distance of thirty (30) yards.
- Assist with construction inspection on various projects, including annual field inspections of different types (ditch inventory, detention pond, pavement evaluation, etc.).
- Interact with contractors, citizens, and staff with practical and positive communications.
- Perform maintenance work as needed under the direction of the Public Works staff.
- Communicate and track the use of the City’s subcontractors to locate City-owned fiber optics, street lights, electric services, and traffic signal facilities.
- Read engineering plans and specifications to perform field inspections. Keep documentation of daily checks, field sketch of changes to drawings, quality control of materials through visual inspection, and field measurement of bid items for various projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, construction methods, industry standards, and stormwater regulations.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in engineering or construction related field
- A valid Driver’s License.
