About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join a fast-paced operation supporting critical diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This is a hands-on opportunity for a skilled mechanic who can independently diagnose, repair, and maintain modern diesel equipment while helping minimize downtime and keep operations running safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, experience with diagnostic scan tools, and the ability to work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, drivetrains, fuel systems, and related components.
- Use computerized diagnostic scan tools to identify fault codes, interpret diagnostic data, and determine appropriate repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, fluid changes, and component replacement.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel-system issues to identify root causes of equipment failures.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, service documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service bulletins.
- Perform both scheduled maintenance and unscheduled/emergency repairs.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify safety, mechanical, or compliance issues.
- Accurately document repairs, parts used, labor hours, diagnostic findings, and maintenance activities.
- Complete maintenance records and work orders using established procedures or computerized maintenance systems.
- Communicate with supervisors and operations personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and applicable industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or similar role.
- Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and equipment.
- Proficiency using diagnostic scan tools for troubleshooting modern diesel equipment.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and service documentation.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems.
- Ability to diagnose problems, determine root causes, and perform effective repairs.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple work orders in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work in a shop and/or field environment, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working in varying weather conditions.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or education in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, or a related field.
- ASE or other relevant mechanic/diesel technician certifications.
- Experience in fleet maintenance or heavy equipment servicing.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Experience working in oilfield, construction, industrial, or energy operations.
- Previous experience performing mobile or field repairs at customer or job sites.
- Experience working with diesel equipment in North Dakota or similar operating environments.
