Buyer Job Description
Location: The Waianae Store Job Type: Full Time/Exempt Reports to: Executive Officers
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Buyer is a key member of the team responsible for managing category sales, margin and profitability. The buyer must work and communicate with the Store and Department Managers to assure the teams goals and expectations are met and on schedule.
JOB DUTIES:
Sales & Marketing
· Pricing and Programming
· Develop programs with vendor partners to sustain and grow our business
· Develop programs for all media platforms
· Develop vendor relationships and merchandising strategies for all stores
· Facilitate effective communication between vendors and the stores
· Visit Stores – Internal & External
Business Analytics
· Product Assortment & Pricing
· Volume and Sales Evaluation
· Analyze and utilize information to promote growth and mitigate losses
· Margin and Profitability
· Review and complete a category SKU Rationalization
· Competitive Analysis
· Review of retails and Ads from competitors (at least every 2 months)
· Review retails of highly visible/competitive items (weekly)
· Inventory and Cost of Sales Analysis
Financial
· Inventory Control
· Compliance and Audits - Ensure departments are trained on, and adhere to, all company, state, and federal laws, including safety and regulatory compliance.
Administrative
· Back-office data maintenance/data entry
· Work with Account Managers to facilitate logistics and problem solve procurement and accounting issues
· Provide support for person(s) who oversees Sales Reps/Merchandisers & self-managed vendor orders
Direct Manufacturer
· Ordering
· Cost maintenance
· Inventory management
Overall Associate Development
· Provide guidance and suggestions regarding policies and procedures as they pertain to Store Operations
· Provide guidance for department level training needs and/or requirements
· Models company standards with a positive, service-oriented attitude. Displays excellent communication with all buyers, departments, management, vendors, customers and throughout the community.
· Demonstrates negotiation and conflict resolution skills
· Accurately handles special orders
· Has a thorough knowledge of all products within the category. Ensures compliance with all merchandising standards, including but not limited to: proper stock levels, facing, display and signage. When necessary, provide support to the department managers with making corrections to inventory.
· Work with the department managers on getting feedback on product request/opinion from our customers and department personnel.
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
- Some college or equivalent experience to include a min. of 5 years work experience in a grocery store.
- Near perfect attendance is an essential function of this position. Must be available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be flexible to perform duties at The Waianae Store, Nanakuli Super and Friendly Market Center locations as directed.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic office equipment skills with business telephone systems, fax machines, printers/photocopier: knowledgeable in some of these systems: MS Office; MS Excel, spreadsheets, Google Sheets, Catapult, BrData, AS400, HQ, Oracle, ISS45, RF Guns, 10-key calculator, email and texting correspondence.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work calmly with behavioral and health related incidents.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, adhere to timelines, and process urgent projects while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to respond appropriately and immediately to emergencies as defined by Emergency Procedure Guide/Safety Manual.

JOB TYPE: Full-time, 45 hours per week
PAY: starting at $70,000.00 per year, Salary will be commensurate with experience
