Wind Technician – Lexington, OR
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Wind Technician for a 4-month contract assignment in Lexington, OR. This role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to gain hands-on experience in renewable energy operations, with a primary focus on supporting a critical bird mortality monitoring project. You will work directly with environmental teams, utilizing SCADA systems to manage turbine states while also assisting with routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
This position follows a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, requiring availability for nights, weekends, and some holidays. You will work in varying outdoor conditions, including inclement weather, and must be comfortable climbing turbine towers. Safety, reliability, and a strong willingness to learn are the cornerstones of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support bird mortality monitoring efforts by pausing, unlocking, and placing turbines into service mode using SCADA systems.
- Perform entry-level preventive maintenance on wind turbine and solar energy systems to ensure operational reliability.
- Assist experienced technicians in troubleshooting electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues.
- Learn to use SCADA systems for remote diagnostics and performance monitoring.
- Strictly adhere to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and site-specific protocols.
- Conduct system monitoring and document findings accurately.
- Work effectively in a 12-hour rotating shift environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0–5 years of experience in a technical, mechanical, or electrical field.
- Valid, non-restricted driver's license with no alcohol or drug-related driving offenses within the last five years.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and climbing turbine towers.
- Ability to obtain NERC CIP unescorted physical and cyber access.
- Ability to obtain Nuclear unescorted badge access.
Preferred Skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Power Generation, Renewables, or a related technical field.
- Prior experience with SCADA systems or wind turbine operations.
