Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Job Type: Contract | 13 Weeks
Shift: Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Schedule: 5 x 8-Hour Shifts | 40 Hours/Week
Weekends: Rotating Weekends Required
On-Call: Required
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support a busy Surgical Services department in an acute care hospital setting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient safety.
Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Prepare instrument trays, procedure carts, and specialty sets for surgical procedures
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment and high-level disinfection systems
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized
- Inspect instruments for functionality, damage, and completeness before distribution
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and documentation
- Track and manage instrument inventory and supplies
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, safety, and regulatory guidelines
- Respond to urgent requests from operating rooms and procedural areas
- Collaborate with surgical services staff to support procedural readiness
- Assist with equipment maintenance and report malfunctioning instruments or equipment
- Float to similar units or departments as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience required
- Previous acute care hospital experience preferred
- Current Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST, CBSPD, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong knowledge of sterilization processes and surgical instrumentation
- Experience with instrument tracking systems and electronic documentation
- Familiarity with AAMI, OSHA, Joint Commission, and infection prevention standards
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
